Old Christiania and Akershus Medieval Fortress and Castle

We will start the walk at Kristiania Torg which used to be the heart and soul of the city. The fortress has protected the city since 1319, and since then has been the scene of many events in Norwegian history. The fortress has been a castle, a prison and a warehouse and is now in use as a museum.

Your guide will tell you more about one of the fastest growing capitals in Europe and show you how the city blends in new buildings with the old. See how old industrial buildings are mixed with new cultures and exciting architecture, starting by crossing the Acrobat bridge from multicultural Grønland neighbourhood to the Barcode district and learn about the development in Bjørvika, with its urban beaches, new housing and businesses. We will pass by the Opera House, and end up in front of the fantastic, new Deichman library. The tour combines the fjord and urban city life.
